In spite of Pres. Donald Trump’s promises, prices didn’t fall in his first month in office — they rose, with prices on food up by nearly two percent (in part due to bird flu). Non-food expenses like medical care, car insurance, and used vehicles were up just under half a percent in January.
That’s according to the consumer price index from the Federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.
And at the height of heating season, Trump’s tariffs seem likely to also increase home heating prices, because Maine relies heavily on Canada for heating oil and electricity.
Trump’s monetary policies could also push inflation higher, because the president wants to lower interest rates alongside pushing for more tariffs.
